For the deaf community, interpersonal communication includes not only verbal conversations but also sign languagebased communication such as BISINDO (Indonesian Sign Language). In the context of higher education, particularly at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, sign language becomes a vital tool for deaf students to interact with their social environment. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of interpersonal communication through BISINDO between deaf students and volunteers as an effort to achieve inclusive communication. This research was conducted at the Pusat Layanan Difabel (PLD) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. A qualitative approach was employed in this study. The data used includes both primary and secondary data, with data collection conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was performed descriptively. The results of this study reveal that openness and accessibility in communication significantly enhance interactions between deaf students and volunteers at the Pusat Layanan Difabel UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Volunteers who learn Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO) create a supportive environment, fostering empathy and appreciation for diversity, which motivates deaf students to participate actively. Additionally, the support and involvement of volunteers build trust and confidence, while self-control and transparency contribute to a positive atmosphere. Overall, effective interpersonal communication through BISINDO is essential for achieving inclusive communication that values and supports deaf students in their educational experience. Interpersonal communication through BISINDO is vital for fostering an inclusive environment at the Pusat Layanan Difabel UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The commitment of volunteers to learn BISINDO not only enhances trust but also allows for tailored communication that meets the specific needs of deaf students. Empathy and support from volunteers facilitate greater engagement and participation, while maintaining equality in interactions empowers deaf students to express themselves confidently. This inclusive approach ultimately enriches the educational experience and strengthens the sense of community among all participants.
