Hum abstract: The focus of this study is on the Ratu Adil movement of Prince Diponegoro and the ideals of the Islamic kingdom from 1823 to 1855. Based on the focus of the study, the research explains several issues, namely first: about the relationship between the Dutch government, Prince Diponegoro, and Javanese society in the late 18th century to the early 19th century. Second, it examines the concept of the Ratu Adil movement and the ideals of an Islamic kingdom promoted by Prince Diponegoro. Third, it discusses the realisation or goals of the movement and ideals. This thesis research uses a biographical approach, using hermeneutic theory in examining Prince Diponegoro's thoughts on the ideals of an Islamic state and Ratu Adil and the ideals of an Islamic kingdom in Java. According to Wilhelm Dilthey, hermeneutic theory concentrates on the interpretation of "expressions of human inner life", whether in the form of signs, historical behaviour, legal codification, works of art and literature. The research procedure uses the historical method with stages such as: heuristics (collecting sources), criticism (internal and external), interpretation (interpreting data by looking for causal laws), and historiography or writing stage. The results of this thesis research are: First, the condition of Java under the Dutch government policy in the early 19th century was filled with arbitrariness, which made the Javanese people suffer, including a figure, Prince Diponegoro, from the palace. Secondly, Prince Diponegoro went on a spiritual journey and declared himself as the Queen of Justice in Java. As a leading Ratu Adil, he wished to establish an independent Islamic kingdom, which would stabilise the order of society, in accordance with Javanese values. Thirdly, Prince Diponegoro used the movement as legitimisation in the Java War, and fulfilled his personal ambition as an independent Sultan of Java. date: 2024-01-10 date_type: published pages: 123 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ADAB DAN ILMU BUDAYA thesis_type: masters thesis_name: other citation: Ahmad Shofiyulloh Fahmi, NIM.: 20201022010 (2024) GERAKAN RATU ADIL DAN CITA-CITA KERAJAAN ISLAM PANGERAN DIPONEGORO DI TANAH JAWA 1823-1855.
