"The results of translation are not free from loss and gain, as happened in the\r\ntranslation of Diwan Ali bin Abi Talib in Indonesian translated by Musyfiqur\r\nRohman, so the translator's ability to convey the thoughts and meanings intended\r\nin the target language commensurately is a challenging task. This study aims to\r\ndescribe and analyze the forms, types, causes and impacts of loss and gain\r\nstrategies on the translation of Diwan Ali bin Abi Talib in Indonesian. The\r\nmaterial object of this research is the translation of Diwan Ali bin Abi Talib,\r\nwhile the formal object is loss and gain on the translation of Diwan Ali bin Abi\r\nTalib in Indonesian. All data analyzed are translations resulting from the use of\r\nformal equivalence techniques. This research is a descriptive qualitative research,\r\nusing the distributional study method. The data collection technique used is the\r\nlistening method with note-taking technique. The first step starts from rewriting\r\nthe poem stanza with its translation, describing the facts based on the loss and\r\ngain that occur, and analyzing the data based on the problem formulation. The\r\nresults show that there are forms of loss and gain in the translation of Diwan Ali\r\nbin Abi Talib in Indonesian, at the level of words, and phrases. The types of loss\r\nand gain are divided into two types, namely inevitable and avertable. The factors\r\ncausing loss and gain are linguistic and nonlinguistic differences. The linguistic\r\ndifference is the difference in uslūb and dilālah between Arabic and Indonesian.\r\nMeanwhile, nonlinguistic differences arise due to cultural differences between\r\nthe two languages and the different modes of thinking between the translator and\r\nthe author of the source text. The impact of loss and gain is to make the\r\ntranslation more communicative and easy to understand so that the translation\r\nbecomes equivalent. Although the goal is to produce a commensurate translation,\r\nbased on the analysis of the translation results, it does not always become\r\ncommensurate, there is a reduction (loss) which results in a translation that is not\r\ncommensurate because it removes meaning from the source text."^^ .
