abstract: This study aimed to examine the narrative structure and find the connotation meaning within the stories of Al-Malaku Jibril, Khiṭab min Mayyit and Al-Safil in the short story anthology Al-Sa'adah Laisa Laha Tarikh by Ihsan Abd al-Qudūs. The theory of structural and semiology by Roland Barthes were employed to examine the subject of the study. The problem behind this research was the necessity of arranging the stroy with a series of events: finding the core of the story, catalyst, sequence, actant, index proper, informant and story as a point of communication. In addition, it must be explored necessary to find the connotation meaning in each story as a means to unite the three stories as a whole and get a broad and deep meaning when the author enters the level of text production. From the background of the problem, the researcher focused on analyzing the three stories by using Barthes' structural theory, then using to Barthes' semiological analysis to find connotation meaning, and finally the reseacher produces the text. This type of research is qualitative, the method is descriptive and the form of this research is a literature study. The results showed that in the structural analysis, each story presents its own story, but in the semiological analysis, the three stories have a common theme, namely betrayal. Thus, betrayal is the visible structure and deep structure that becomes the umbrella of the three stories. The factors that lead to betrayal are ignorance and trust, high trust, and deep love. The patterns of betrayal include: the "cloak of goodness" is used to commit crimes and the values of kindness and trust are used to obtain personal interests and desires that can harm others. Often the victim of betrayal is powerless to blame the betrayer because they also had a hand in the betrayal.
