description: This study examines the novel Lā Anām by Iḥsān ʻAbdu al-Quddus tells the story of Nadia's life as the main character who suffers from schizophrenia. This study aims to examine the symptoms and causes of schizophrenia experienced by the main character, the personality structure of the main character, and ego defense mechanisms. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research with a psychological approach that focuses on literary works. Researchers use content analysis methods. The study of schizophrenia experienced by the main character refers to the opinions of Nevid, Rathus, and Greene in their book entitled Abnormal Psychology In A Changing World, while the study of the main character's personality structure and ego defense mechanism using Sigmund Freud's theory of psychoanalysis. The results showed that the symptoms of schizophrenia experienced by Nādia included delusions, hallucinations, emotional disturbances and interpersonal disorders. The predominance of delusional and hallucinatory symptoms, indicates that the schizophrenia experienced by Nādia is categorized as a paranoid type schizophrenia. This symptom was also followed by two other symptoms, namely emotional disorders and interpersonal disorders experienced by Nādia. Nādia's schizophrenia symptoms are caused by several factors, namely the trauma of divorce from both parents, parenting styles of parents who are not directly involved in the growth of children, and the ineffective use of defense mechanisms when coping with anxiety due to psychological conflicts. The structure of the Nādia personality consists of the id element in the form of acts of aggression, ego dysfunction in the form of manipulative behavior and passive aggression, and the superego element in the form of regret has an impact on the development of schizophrenia symptoms experienced by Nādia. While the ego defense mechanism used by Nādia affects Nādia's personality, causing several problems, namely causing interpersonal disorders and emotional disorders that have an impact on the development of schizophrenia symptoms experienced by Nādia.
