"This study is driven by the importance of pre-school education in building a child’s\r\ncharacter, which does not only depend on formal education, but also the family’s traditional\r\npractices such as infant rocking. In Aceh Tamiang, the infant-rocking tradition combined\r\nwith Dodoisidodoi rhyme has long been a part of pre-school-child-education practice. Apart\r\nfrom its entertaining tone, it also introduces values of tradition, social norm and morality to\r\nan infant. This study aims to describe the traditional practice of pre-school education of\r\nvalues for children, to narrate in details the picture and knowledge of children’s value\r\neducation synergizing with rocking tradition while rhyming Dodoisidodoi, and to explain\r\nhow the rocking and rhyming tradition is integrated with formal pre-school education.\r\nUsing a qualitative-descriptive method with observation, documentation, and\r\ninterview to compile data, the study took place in three villages in Aceh Tamiang and four\r\nformal pre-school educations were involved. For 12 months the researcher actively involved\r\nin the child-rocking practice observation and, together with the education institutions, carried\r\nout a learning process in which traditional values were integrated. The approach enabled the\r\nscholar to comprehend the meaning and values of the rhyme and understand how those values\r\nwere taught and implemented. The theory of value and cultural role of education for\r\nchildren’s character building was utilized for the analysis.\r\nThe results show that child-rocking and rhyme tradition practiced by Aceh Tamiang\r\npeople plays a significant role in the character and positive-value building of an infant. The\r\ntradition teaches young children the concepts of honesty, cooperative, and respect, which are\r\ninternalized from a very young age. It also discovers that the values can effectively be\r\nintegrated with the curriculum, empowering the child-character education when combined\r\nwith local culture heritage. The dissertation contributes to the theoretical studies of traditional\r\npractice on value education to pre-school children in Aceh Tamiang, provides an attractive\r\ntheoretical reflection of various early childhood education concepts, one of which is the\r\nimportance of culture context. This theory emphasizes local tradition involvement to create\r\na more relevant and more effective education for young children. The education practices of\r\nAceh Tamiang prove that the culture values inserted into education world can be a firm\r\nfoundation for the children’s character and identity building."^^ .
