N2  - The rapid development of information technology has
made it easier for society to conduct transactions, including
through e-commerce platforms like Tokopedia. However, as
technology advances, it also brings negative impacts,
particularly in relation to threats of personal data breaches.
Personal data breaches have become an increasingly crucial
issue, especially with the rise in data breach cases, which result
in significant impacts on consumers. Tokopedia, as one of the
largest e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, carries a great
responsibility in protecting the personal data of its users.
However, past data breaches have raised questions regarding the
data protection standards implemented by Tokopedia and its
data storage procedures. This study aims to analyze the
standards for implementing personal data protection by
Tokopedia to ensure the safety of user data and prevent
breaches. In addition, this research also examines the data
storage procedures employed by Tokopedia to maintain the
confidentiality and integrity of consumer data.
This study is a field research, with a descriptive-analytic
nature. It uses a juridical-empirical approach by directly
examining the normative aspects of data protection law from the
consumer perspective on the protection of their personal data.
Data is obtained through interviews with relevant parties,
literature review, and legal document analysis, such as Law No.
27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection and other technical
regulations.
The results of this study show that Tokopedia has
implemented preventive measures such as data encryption,
access encryption, system authentication, and regular audits.
However, the implementation of data storage procedures reveals
challenges in terms of compliance with regulations, such as the
integration between the technology used and the increasing
volume of data. Therefore, further supervision from the
government and increased transparency from Tokopedia in
managing user personal data are necessary. Additionally, there
are still weaknesses in data protection, particularly in relation to
consumer education and external oversight.
