There are some students who still have difficulty reading, recognizing letters and syllables. The learning process that still uses the lecture method makes it easy for students to get bored while following the lesson and makes it difficult for students to receive the information or material provided by the teacher. Problems with initial reading skills that occur in lower grades such as grades I, II and III require interesting and varied learning strategies that invo lve learning about media. Puzzle card media is one media that can help with the problems of beginning reading skills for class I students. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consist of 2 cycles, each cycle has a planning stage, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this research were class I Al-Ghazali students at SD Muhammadiyah Demangan with a total of 20 students, consisting of 9 female students and 11 male students. The data obtained in this research includes giving test questions (pretest and posttest) to students at the end of each cycle, implemention of teaching modules during the learning process, interview results and documentation. One of the indicators of success in this research is the increase in students initial reading skills above the standard KKM score of 75. The results of observations made by researchers showed that there was can increase in students initial reading skills. The can be concluded based on the results of the first cycle test with an average of 60,5 getting a percentage skor of 76% in the good category. Then the test results in cycle II with an average of 88,25, the percentage value was 88%, which means the percentage value was In the very good category.
