Yaser Arafat M.A abstract: Modernity has changed many things, one of which is the culture of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. Nowadays, Islamic boarding schools that are local in spirit are not often found. In fact, it is very rare. However, in Yogyakarta there are still Islamic boarding schools that maintain two Javanese cultures in every agenda. Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School is known as an institution that focuses on arts and culture. So the focus of this study is to analyze how the religious and cultural foundations that exist in Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School in Yogyakarta can be built. And to see historically the idea of Cultural Islam can emerge. This is not without reason, the tram that is identical to Kiai M. Jadul Maula is able to influence socio-religious life. Be it in terms of mindset, behavior, or becoming a movement within the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School. This study uses the Sociology of Religion approach with the Social Construction theory of Peter L Berger and Thomas Luckman, and takes the concepts of Externalization, Objectivation, and Internalization. This concept is used in analyzing the religious process and development of students at the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta. As well as seeing the idea of Cultural Islam interpreted inwardly at the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School. In addition, it also sees its influence on the awareness of students when absorbing all knowledge at the Islamic boarding school, and reflecting it outside the Islamic boarding school. This research is a qualitative research with field studies (filed research). Data collection techniques are carried out in three ways, namely participant observation, and interviews with kiai, daily administrators, and students at the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School, as well as documentation. Then the data that has been obtained is presented in the form of descriptive analysis. Based on the research results, the following findings were obtained: First, the idea of Cultured Islam is the result of the social process of Kiai Jadul M. Maula when interacting in the daily environment, so that it can produce an important paradigm of thought to be used in the historical space of the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School. Second, the idea of Cultured Islam has become the foundation of the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School. Its existence in the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School is also able to influence the students there in behaving and becoming a guideline when behaving. Students actively come into direct contact with what is routine in the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School, such as: Ngaji Dewa Ruci, Ngaji Posonan, Shalawat Emprak, and so on. They, the students, are able to become actors or spectators who indirectly lead to the essence of knowledge of Cultured Islam. Where the idea of Cultured Islam is no longer theoretical and philosophical, but it lives in the daily space of the Kaliopak Islamic Boarding School.
