Unfortunately, such characters are often depicted stereotypically which risks influencing audience perceptions, even Islamic films have succumbed to this discriminative comic strategy. This research aims to analyse the representation of comic relief characters in the web series Demi Masa (By Time). Stuart Hall’s theory of representation along with the four comic identity and concept of the body coined by Andrew Stott form the theoretical foundation of this study, subsequently the analytical findings are compared with the Islamic principle of equality. A qualitative descriptive approach and John Fiske’s semiotic analysis method are used to analyse meanings contained in 12 scenes from the series. Meanings are interpreted through Fiske’s three levels of codes: reality, representation, and ideology. The results show that comic relief characters in the series are represented through three patterns: lookism, social class difference, and low intellectual ability. The use of comedic elements in the series, dominated by the fools and folly and stereotypes identities as well as teasing and slapstick humour, further clarifies the construction of these three patterns. This representation risks shaping perceptions that humorous people are unattractive in appearance and vice versa, that lower-class groups are suitable targets for humour, and that being humorous equates to being foolish. These findings confirm that the representation of comic relief characters in Demi Masa contradicts the principle of equality taught in Islam, particularly in Surah al-Hujurat verse 13.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">302.23 Komunikasi Massa</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-01-19</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS DAKWAH DAN KOMUNIKASI</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_70104"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_70104_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
