The goal of this analysis is to uncover the discourse provided by journalists in writing news. The MUI fatwa news regarding interfaith greetings sparked controversy from various community institutions and also from the Ministry of Religion itself. Online media Tempo.co and Republika Online are media that have been around for a long time and are well known by Indonesian people. These two media have quite different backgrounds. Using Teun Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis theory, which includes text, social cognition, and social context, this research examines the news coverage of these two media. This research method is a descriptive qualitative study with a critical approach. The data collection technique used is the listening, noting, and documentation technique. After the data is collected, the researcher will analyze the data, reduce it, then present the data, and draw a conclusion. The results of this study show that the news coverage by Tempo.co and Republika Online fulfills the elements of Teun Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis theory. First, in the text structure, there are various differences in the headlines of this news despite having the same theme, namely the response from various community institutions regarding the MUI fatwa on interfaith greetings. In the text structure, it can also be seen how Republika chooses their news sources from Islamic organizations while Tempo.co is more general. The social cognition analysis in these two media is quite different according to the ideology of each media. Tempo emphasizes respecting every difference while Republika tries to show their ideology to uphold Islamic law. Lastly, in the social context analysis, Tempo.co relates to their vision and mission to prioritize pluralism in religion and freedom of expression. This power is used to oppose those who defend their stance, whereas Republika sees the importance of maintaining the fatwa decision and using power and ideology to support narratives related to the fatwa results. %Z Dr. Rama Kertamukti, S.Sos., M.Sn
