N2  - Eyelash extension is a beauty trend that has become increasingly popular among the public, especially among women who want to enhance their appearance. This phenomenon not only impacts beauty trends but also raises discussions regarding Islamic legal aspects. This study aims to analyze the practice of using eyelash extensions from the perspective of Islamic Legal Sociology, focusing on how this practice is perceived and accepted by the Muslim community. Some scholars argue that this practice is prohibited (haram) because it is analogous to the ruling on hair extensions and contains various harms (mudarat). However, the service remains in high demand among providers and users alike.
This study uses a field research method with a descriptive qualitative analysis approach through an empirical juridical framework. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, which are then processed and analyzed to identify issues and provide solutions.
The findings show that factors influencing the use of eyelash extensions include the desire to look more attractive, boost self-confidence, and social factors. The application practices at salons in the Sekaran sub-district are similar to common practices elsewhere. From the perspective of Islamic law, most scholars argue that eyelash extensions are prohibited because they are analogous to hair extensions. However, many Muslim women continue to use them in practice. From the perspective of Islamic Legal Sociology, this phenomenon occurs due to a lack of understanding and awareness about Islamic law, the influence of social environments, and the penetration of Western culture. These factors affect the process of forming and implementing Islamic law within society.
