"Approaching the Eid al-Fitr Holiday, sales of food and beverage products traded in the market experienced quite high disruptions, balanced by an increase in consumers. Based on market raids carried out by Kulon Progo Satpol PP in 2023, officers found expired food and beverages. This not only has an impact on consumer safety but is also financially detrimental. Legal awareness of bussines actors and consumers in preventing expired food and beverages is very much needed. On the other hand, the role of legal protection from the goevrment is needed as a party that regulates, supervises, and controls in creating a conducive system and atmosphere in society. In this case, the Kulon Progo Industry and Trade Servise as one of the agencies responsible for consumer legal protection in coordinating, fostering and supervising the implementation of trade businesses for product traded until they reach consumers. The purpose of this study is to explain the awareness of bussines actors and consumers regarding expired food and beverages at Clereng Market and to find out the form of legal protection for consumers carried out by the government regarding the existence of expired food and beverage products traded ahead of Eid al-Fitr at Clereng Market in 2023.\r\nThis type of research is field research with an empirical legal approach. The nature of this research is descriptive analytical. Data collection techniques in this study were obtained through interviews and observation. Data analysis uses qualitative analysis methods and draws conclucions deductively.\r\nThe results of the study indicate that: First, the legal awareness of business actors and consumers that has been adjusted to several indicators and factors against expired food and beverage products is still low. Prevention of the circulation of expired food and beverages in the Clereng Market carried out by both business actors and consumers is not in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. Second, legal protection for consumers from business actors still has good intentions and is responsible if consumers experience losses, while from the government through the Trade and Industry Office and the Kulon Progo Satpol PP, legal protection for consumers against expired food and beverages ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday is still low, lack of education provided to consumers, market control supervision and law enforcement that are still weak in following up on business actors who are proven to have violated and continue to trade in expired food and beverages."^^ .
