This study aims to synthesize modified magnetite nanoparticles using sweet orange peel extract (MNPs-CS) from household waste and its application as an adsorbent of methylene blue dye in a multicomponent system. The synthesis of MNPs-CS was carried out by the reverse coprecipitation method with water solvent at a temperature of 60°C. MNPs-CS were characterized using FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX. In this study, the adsorption of methylene blue by MNPs-CS was studied at various pH, reaction time, and concentration to determine the kinetic model, adsorption isotherm, and interactions that occur between methylene blue on MNPs-CS. FTIR spectrum and XRD diffractogram showed that the magnetite formed in a pure state was not mixed with other iron oxides. SEM images showed irregular morphology with a rough surface. EDX spectrum showed that the magnetite nanoparticles in this study were successfully coated by sweet orange peel extract. The crystal and particle sizes of MNPs-CS was 7,09 nm and 1-14,79 ?m. The optimum adsorption of methylene blue on MNPs-CS occurred at pH 10 and a time of 30 minutes, and followed the pseudo second-order Ho kinetic model. The isotherm model that is suitable for the adsorption of methylene blue in single and multicomponent systems is the Freundlich isotherm model. Methylene blue and MNPs-CS are thought to interact through ?-? interactions, electrostatic interactions, and hydrogen bonds.
