One of the land dispute cases is overlapping certificates, where overlapping certificates refer to a piece of land that has two land certificates, both owned/controlled by different individuals. The land certificate disputes that arise are not separate from errors in the land registration process, whether made by the community in the application requirements and land measurement to the Land Office, errors made due to discrepancies in mapping and measurement by the Land Office, as well as errors in the issuance of land rights certificates. The research was conducted to analyze the causes of overlapping land disputes and how to resolve these overlapping disputes at the Bantul District Land Office. This research is an empirical juridical study, which is a legal research that examines existing legal rules (legislation) and will be considered with the reality in the form of empirical data available in the field. Empirical data were obtained through interviews with the Bantul Regency Land Office. The analysis results in this study will be conducted using qualitative data analysis methods, which involve a detailed description of specific events or phenomena. The results of this research explain that firstly, the factors that cause overlapping land title certificates at the Bantul Regency Land Office, the dispute over overlapping land certificates, are caused by the land owner not controlling the land, the plot of land being measured has not been mapped (plotting), the measurement is not attended by the Head of Village/Village and neighbors of the land that borders it, there are no or no boundaries of land plots, be it stakes, walls, barriers or fences. Second, the resolution of disputes over overlapping land title certificates at the Bantul Regency Land Office is carried out by mediation between the disputing parties based on the principle of deliberation to reach a consensus for the good of all parties.
