Unlike the classical muslim scholars who positioned tadabbur as an ethical aspect, Habannakah developed it into a methodological approach. This research is focused on two main main questions: namely, why did ?Abdurrahman Hasan Habannakah tends to develop the concept of tadabbur as an alternative in the interpretation of the Qur?an, compared to the approach of tafsir or ta?wil which is more widely used by muslim scholars of his generation? Second, how can the application of the concept of tadabbur formulated by Habannakah contribute as an alternative approach in the interpretation of the Qur?an in the contemporary era? To obtain answers of these two questions, this research uses a socio-historical approach and descriptive-analytical method by adopting two theories. First, Karl Mannheim?s theory of sociology of knowledge to analyze the answer to the first question. Second, Jorge J.E Gracia?s theory of interpretation to analyze the answer to the second question. The findings of this study indicate that ?Abdurrahman Hassan Habannakah?s tendency to develop the concept of tadabbur (contemplative reflection) of the Qur?an is influenced by several key factors related to his social, cultural, familial, and academic background. Overall, Habannakah?s inclination toward advancing tadabbur is shaped by his commitment to religious values, morality, and his concerns regarding the challenges of secularism and Western hermeneutics. Furthermore, the application of the tadabbur concept formulated by Habannakah can serve as an alternative approach to Qur?anic interpretation in the contemporary era, as it tends to be more holistic compared to traditional exegesis. Tadabbur not only focuses on textual interpretation but also encompasses spiritual dimensions and transformative intellectual reflection. Thus, the tadabbur approach contributes to expanding the scope of contemporary Qur?anic studies by not only enriching intellectual experiences but also fostering spiritual and social transformation that is relevant to the context of modern life.} }
