"In educational institutions, especially religion, there are teachings or guidelines for each with various ways of delivery. This is what makes good communication important to support the delivery of messages in the form of knowledge, especially akhlakul kharimah by a kyai to his students. As happened at Al- Islam Islamic Boarding School Yogyakarta, how the communication pattern was carried out by the kyai as the leader of the boarding school and the outpout felt by the students. This study aims to determine the kyai's communication pattern in shaping akhlakul kharimah in students of Al- Islam Islamic Boarding School. The approach in this research is descriptive qualitative, with observation, interview and documentation methods. This research uses the theory of family communication patterns with 3 patterns of formation according to Diana Baumrind, namely, authoritarian, democratic and permissive communication patterns with the relevance of transformational leadership theory by James MacGregor Burns. This research is represented by four informants from Al- Islam Islamic Boarding School with different backgrounds and closeness to get representative data. The results of this study use triangulation techniques used to validate data by comparing and confirming information obtained from various sources and methods with the reality in the field. The results of this study found that democratic communication patterns were consistently applied by Kyai Endarka Hana in his interactions with santri, characterized by openness to participation through regular discussion forums, constructive dialogue and discussion reflected in document analysis and interviews, and empowerment of santri through giving trust and responsibility\r\nxv\r\nin the management of pesantren activities. These findings are strengthened by data triangulation from participant observation and pesantren activities, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, which collectively indicate an inclusive, participatory, and empowering pesantren environment.\r\nKeywords: Communication Pattern, Kyai, Santri, Akhlakul Kharimah"^^ .
