This study aims to investigate the effect of amount of citronellal (20 mL and 30 mL) and reaction time (5 hours and 6 hours) on menthol yield. Reaction was conducted in a reflux system at 80°C with isopropanol solvent and acid activated Ni/bentonite catalyst and reduced with dragonfruit peel extract. The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The presence of menthol was confirmed. The results showed that menthol yield increased with increasing reaction time, with an optimum yield of 21.94% at 20 mL citronellal and 6 hours reaction time. However, increasing the amount of citronellal to 30 mL did not result in a significant increase in yield.
