abstract: Love is an active act undertaken by humans towards another object, encompassing various dimensions of emotion and profound behavior. Love is not merely a passive feeling; it involves concrete actions that demonstrate commitment and dedication to the beloved, and that is at least the true concept of love. However, the concept of love in this era defines love as romantic love, which focuses on the desire to possess, personal happiness, and satisfaction in romantic relationships. This love is often associated with the physical, emotional, and sexual aspects of a relationship, and is expected to provide a sense of security, support, and personal fulfilment. Not only that, romantic love in this era tends to change quickly, influenced by trends and social pressures, and easily fades in a rapidly changing culture. It is far different from the deeper and more spiritual concept of love held by Sufi masters.
Therefore, based on the background previously presented, the research problem of this study is about the historical background and context of the writing of the Fathur Rabbani book and how the concept of Mahabbah is conveyed by Sheikh Abdul Qadir in the book. The purpose of this study is to understand the historical context of the writing of the Fathur Rabbani book and to provide an understanding of the concept of Mahabbah as presented in the Fathur Rabbani book by Sheikh Abdul Qadir al Jaelani.
The type of this research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The primary data source for this research comes from the book al Fathul ar Rabbani wal Fawaidlul Rahmani by Sheikh Abdul Qadir al Jaelani and several other literatures related to the research topic. Then, the obtained data is processed using content analysis techniques.
This skripsi found that the background of the writing of the Fathur Rabbani book is inseparable from several conditions that influence it. Starting from political conditions, social conditions, to religious conditions. Not only that, the rapid development of science and the conflicts that occurred at that time also influenced the context of the writing of the Fathur Rabbani book. Even with the situation, Sheikh Abdul Qadir hopes that the existence of the Fathur Rabbani book can be a guide for seekers to reach the mahabbah of Allah. This skripsi also found that the concept of mahabbah according to Sheikh Abdul Qadir is a gift that cannot be obtained through human effort alone, but rather is a divine gift. Although called a gift, humans have an active role in achieving this love. This love begins with the desire of humans to draw closer to Allah through acts of worship and efforts to purify oneself. This initial phase shows that humans have the initiative to seek divine love, which then transforms into a dynamic relationship where Allah also shows His love to His sincere servants. This study also identifies several important steps in achieving mahabbah, starting from repentance, trials and tribulations, fear of Allah, and contentment with the qadha and qadar of Allah. Jaelani is a spiritual journey that demands totality, patience, and sincerity. It is not just an emotional feeling, but a transformative ontological relationship, where the initiative of love shifts from humans to Allah SWT as a manifestation of His profound love.
