The Jathilan Roso Tunggal performance is a traditional art that represents the religious and cultural values of Javanese society. Jathilan contains elements of rituals and symbols that reflect the close relationship between belief systems and cultural heritage. However, people's understanding of the religious and cultural aspects of Jathilan is still diverse, which gives rise to various interpretations regarding the meaning and essence of this performance. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the elements in the Jathilan performance and their role in shaping the cultural identity and beliefs of the people in Yogyakarta. Referring to Erving Goffman's theory of social interaction, this study observes how the presentation of religion and culture in the Jathilan Roso Tunggal performance, as well as how the image of religion and culture is formed in the performance. Data collection techniques include direct observation, interviews with artists and the community, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions in order to understand the development and existence of Jathilan in society. Based on the results of the research that has been conducted, several findings have been shown: First, the presentation of religion in Jathilan Roso Tunggal is reflected in rituals such as offerings as a form of respect for the Creator and trance (ndadi) which reflects a connection with the spiritual world. Cultural elements are seen in dance movements, properties, and gamelan music which represent the balance of humans, ancestors, and nature in Javanese beliefs. Second, the image of religion and culture in Jathilan has developed along with social changes and people's perspectives. Some interpret it as a spiritual expression, while others see it as a cultural heritage that reflects local identity. Thus, this performance not only functions as entertainment, but also as a medium of representation that combines elements of religion and culture in the social life of the Yogyakarta community. date: 2025-03-14 date_type: published pages: 111 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Ardhiansyah Bagas Saputra, NIM.: 21105040049 (2025) CITRA RELASI AGAMA DAN BUDAYA: ANALISIS DRAMATURGI PADA PERTUNJUKAN JATHILAN ROSO TUNGGAL DI YOGYAKARTA.
