Language styles are used to express feelings and ideas. Language styles can be found not only in real life but also in media. Related to that, the researcher uses a movie entitled The Reluctant Fundamentalist and focuses on inappropriate language styles used by the characters. This research uses Martin Joos? theory, which classifies language style into five. Those are frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. This research aims to identify the language style that does not align with Martin Joos? theory in The Reluctant Fundamentalist movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, and the data of the characters? utterances is obtained from the script and subtitle of the movie. The result of this research shows that there are nine language styles that change and do not suit the theory, with a total of 106 data. Those are frozen style to casual style, formal style to consultative style, consultative style to formal style, consultative style to casual style, consultative style to intimate style, casual style to formal style, casual style to consultative style, intimate style to consultative style, and intimate style to casual.
