This research is based on ± 73% of teachers who have formal education backgrounds outside the field of education, resulting in various obstacles in carrying out their duties during the learning process. The main focus of this research is to identify the role of leadership in improving teacher competence. This research uses a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The informants in this study consisted of the head of the madrasah, the vice curriculum, and 2 class teachers. The data analysis technique from Miles and Huberman includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The method for verifying the authenticity of data employs source and technique triangulation, a process that entails the comparison of data from diverse methods and sources. The research results indicate that the head of the madrasah plays a role in seven aspects of leadership: educator, manager, administrator, innovator, motivator, supervisor, and leader. This role is crucial for enhancing the four main competencies of teachers: pedagogical, professional, personal, and social competencies. The head of the madrasah not only provides guidance, supervision, and training but also builds a collaborative work environment, gives recognition, and fosters a culture of innovation in the madrasah. Supporting factors in improving teacher competence include high teacher motivation, a conducive work environment, a culture of knowledge sharing, and stakeholder support. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include the mismatch of non-linear educational backgrounds, limited facilities, dual workloads, and limited development time. The leadership approach implemented by the head of the madrasah shows that improving teacher competence requires an approach that not only focuses on the technical aspects of administration but also on sustainable capacity development through motivation, innovation, and exemplary %K Kepemimpinan, Kepala Madrasah, Kompetensi Guru %D 2025 %I UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib71308
