"This study explores the construction of character education in\r\nTafsir Al-Azhar by Hamka and Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish\r\nShihab. The main issues addressed are how character education is\r\nconstructed in these two interpretations and how the thoughts of\r\nHamka and Quraish Shihab contribute to the formulation of character\r\neducation goals. The study aims to identify character values\r\ncontained in both tafsir works and to construct a model of character\r\neducation based on the Qur’an and Hadith, using the theoretical\r\nframework of character education from Ibn Miskawaih and Thomas\r\nLickona. The research seeks to reveal character values and to develop\r\na construction of character education in Tafsir Al-Azhar by Hamka\r\nand Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab.\r\nA qualitative approach was used in the form of library research,\r\nemploying content analysis as the method. The primary data sources\r\nare the texts of the two tafsir works, with secondary data drawn from\r\nliterature on character education. Data collection techniques included\r\ndocumentation and literature review, while data analysis was\r\nconducted through reduction, categorization, and thematic\r\ninterpretation. The study applies Ibn Miskawaih’s theory of character\r\neducation, which focuses on moral balance (wisdom, courage,\r\ntemperance, and justice), as well as Thomas Lickona’s model\r\nemphasizing the cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of\r\nmorality.\r\nThe findings indicate: first, that the character values found in\r\nTafsir Al-Azhar and Tafsir Al-Mishbah cover seven major themes\r\n(religiosity, honesty, empathy, patience, leadership, responsibility,\r\nand patriotism) derived from contextual and normative\r\ninterpretations of Qur’anic verses. Second, the construction of character education in these tafsir works is an original contribution\r\nof this study, formulated through the exploration of character-themed\r\nverses in both tafsir texts. Although neither exegete explicitly\r\noutlines a systematic concept of character education, this research\r\nsuccessfully builds a conceptual framework of character education\r\nbased on these interpretations. The resulting construction integrates\r\nspiritual, moral, and social values into a cohesive model of character\r\neducation that is both integrative and applicable within the context of\r\nIslamic education in Indonesia"^^ .
