"arly marriage refers to a marriage between a man and a woman who have not yet\r\nmet the minimum age requirement as stipulated in the Marriage Law Number 1 of\r\n1974. In 2022, cases of early marriage. Meanwhile, in the Office of Religious\r\nAffairs (KUA) of Umbulharjo District,there were 10 recorded cases of early\r\nmarriage. In this context, the approach of Islamic legal sociology is used to\r\nunderstand the social, cultural, and religious dynamic underlying the practice.\r\nThis research is a library research supported by field research methods, using both\r\nnormative and sociological approaches. The study was conducted based on data\r\nrecorded in the official registry at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of\r\nUmbulharjo, Yogyakarta, in the year 2022. The data sources for this research\r\ninclude official document from the KUA Umbulharjo as well as interview result\r\nwith Anas Yusuf, a civil servant at the KUA Umbulharjo Yogyakarta. Data\r\ncollection techniques involved interviews with the resource person and\r\ndocumentation. The data obtained were then analyzed using a descriptiveanalytical\r\napproarch.\r\nBased on the results of this research, the high rate of early marriage is caused by\r\nseveral factors. Among them is the influence of free association, where teenagers\r\nwho lack parental supervision and receive minimal religious education are more\r\nvulnerable to engaging in inappropriate relationships, which often lead to\r\nunwanted pregnancies. The economic factor also plays a significant role,\r\nespecially in families with low economic conditions, where marrying off children\r\nat an early age is seen as a way to reduce the family's financial burden. The sociocultural\r\nfactor is also influential, as early marriage is still considered normal or\r\nacceptable in some communities, particularly as a means to preserve family honor\r\nand avoid social disgrace.
