N2  - This research focuses on family conflicts arising from the practice of the temteman tradition in wedding celebrations in Dukuh Pesalakan, Mindaka Village, Tarub Sub-district, Tegal Regency. The temteman tradition is a form of voluntary gift given by the community to the organizer of the celebration that contains social obligations in the form of reciprocity. The imbalance of gender roles, economic burden, and lack of communication between couples, especially husbands and wives, often trigger household conflicts when the return of temteman is done without mutual agreement. This study starts from two main questions, why does the practice of temteman tradition trigger conflict in the family? and how do couples resolve conflicts arising from the practice?
The research method used in this study is qualitative with an anthropological approach through field research methods, namely, observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed descriptively-analytically using conflict resolution theory to understand how couples respond to and resolve conflicts that arise.
The results showed that family conflicts were triggered by the wife's dominance in managing friends without the husband's involvement, resulting in open and closed conflicts. Effective conflict resolution strategies involve open communication skills and emotional management in building a mutual settlement agreement. This study also concludes that communication and emotional intelligence of couples are the main keys in responding to conflict due to the practice of temteman tradition, and recommends strengthening joint roles in the practice of tradition so that it does not become a burden on family relationships
