abstract: Drug abuse is a complex problem that covers economic, social and health aspects.
Despite the efforts of various parties to address it, the challenges in rehabilitation
and mental-spiritual development, especially for prisoners, are still great. One
potential approach in supporting the recovery and self-control of prisoners is
religious coping, which is a strategy to manage stress and psychological pressure
through religious activities such as prayer, dhikr, and reading the Qur'an. This
approach is not only a spiritual comfort, but is also able to strengthen mental
resilience and prevent deviant behaviour. This study aims to determine the
relationship between religious coping and self-control in prisoners of drug cases in
Class IIA Yogyakarta Detention Centre. Using a quantitative correlational
approach with saturated sampling technique, all 31 prisoners were sampled. The
results showed a significant positive relationship between religious coping and selfcontrol
with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05) and a correlation coefficient of
0.577. This means that the higher the level of religious coping, the better the selfcontrol
ability of the prisoners. This finding confirms the importance of religious
guidance as part of an ongoing psychosocial rehabilitation programme in
correctional institutions.
