The Kuda Lumping Taruna Bhakti Tama Group is one of the Kuda Lumping Art groups in Yogyakarta that has a high spirit to maintain and preserve Kuda Lumping. The interesting thing about the Kuda Lumping Taruna Bhakti Tama Group is that they are willing to preserve the Kuda Lumping culture without being paid when many young generations are more interested in foreign cultures. This research uses the theory of symbolic interactionism which explains the concepts of mind, self and society. Then this research uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The subjects of this research were four members of the Kuda Lumping Taruna Bhakti Tama dancers. The results of this study are that the Kuda Lumping dancers of Taruna Bhakti Tama interpret Kuda Lumping Art as an art that functions as entertainment and part of the culture of society that is viewed negatively. So that they are motivated to become Kuda Lumping dancers who can entertain the community and eliminate the negative views of society towards Kuda Lumping Art. The Kuda Lumping Taruna Bhakti Tama group sees the function of art as spectacle, order and guidance, so it has established rules that regulate the attitudes of its members to fulfill this function. In this research, the author found a shift in the meaning of the function of Kuda Lumping art according to Kuda Lumping dancer Taruna Bhakti Tama, which was initially seen as a medium for preaching, now only as entertainment, thus reducing the sacredness of this art. %Z Dr. Fatma Dian Pratiwi, S.Sos., M.Si
