This phenomenon is increasingly widespread in the digital era as a form of self-expression, social engagement, and sharing culture on social media. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with interview, observation, and documentation methods for students who are active in these activities. The data were analyzed using the concept of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) which includes aspects of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The results showed that the main motivations of students in uploading pre-meal photos on Instagram include self-expression, following the growing trend, increasing interaction on the Instagram platform, and as part of a personal habit or ritual. In conclusion, this behavior is not just a spontaneous activity, but is closely related to the fulfillment of individual psychological needs, such as saving moments and building digital identity.
