Time constraints frequently impact the quality of interpersonal communication between mother and child, which in turn affects the process of character formation. This study aims to identify interpersonal communication practices carried out by career women at the Regional Police of the Special Region of Yogyakarta in shaping the character of elementary school-aged children. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using in-depth interviews and non-participant observations. The informants consisted of three career women who have children enrolled in full-day elementary schools. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The prominent findings of this study reveal that empathic attitudes and emotional support from working mothers are the most dominant aspects in building effective interpersonal communication. These two aspects foster a sense of emotional safety and closeness, enabling values such as responsibility, discipline, and honesty to be internalized more naturally. Empathy is reflected in mothers’ habits of listening without judgment, understanding their children’s emotions even in difficult situations, and responding with calmness and attention. Emotional support is evident in expressions of praise, involvement in shared activities, and positive reinforcement of the child’s efforts and decisions. Despite limited time together, the mothers maintain meaningful communication through daily routines such as mealtimes, school drop-offs, and bedtime conversations. The differing communication styles among the informants also demonstrate that character formation can be achieved through flexible yet consistent approaches. date: 2025-06-10 date_type: published pages: 174 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Diah Ulam Enjelina, NIM.: 21107030133 (2025) KOMUNIKASI INTERPERSONAL ANTARA ANAK DAN IBU WANITA KARIR DALAM PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER (STUDI DESKRIPTIF KUALITATIF PADA PEGAWAI WANITA KEPOLISIAN DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA).
