description: Intraoral radiography is one of the most widely used imaging modalities in  dentistry. Understanding the technical parameters of this device is important for  producing optimal image quality to support diagnosis. This study aims to analyze  the effect of variations in tube voltage (kVp) and exposure time (mAs) on the quality  of intraoral radiographic images based on the parameters of signal-to-noise ratio  (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and modulation transfer function (MTF). The  study was conducted using a Kavo Focus intraoral radiography unit and a dental  X-ray phantom. Radiographic image data were obtained with tube voltages of 60  kVp and 70 kVp, along with five variations in exposure time (0.70 – 4.41 mAs), and  analyzed using IndoQCT software and Microsoft Excel with simple linear  regression statistical tests. The results showed that increasing mAs significantly  improved SNR and CNR values at 60 kVp with a strong correlation. Conversely, at  70 kVp, increasing mAs did not significantly affect SNR values but still had a  significant positive effect on CNR. Increasing kVp improved SNR and CNR values  but did not affect MTF. MTF values with varying mAs showed results with random  fluctuations due to noise and ROI positioning accuracy. SNR, CNR, and MTF  values from intraoral radiographic images met good image quality standards.  These findings support the use of 60 kVp as the optimal voltage for intraoral  radiographic imaging and support radiation protection in accordance with the  ALARA principle. This study contributes to bridging the literature gap regarding  the relationship between exposure factors and image quality by comprehensively  analyzing them in intraoral radiography.
