This study aimed to identify the effect of varying CaCO? filler concentrations on the physical and mechanical properties of the films, as well as their effectiveness in reducing carrot weight loss. The edible films were prepared using the gelatinization method with 5 grams of starch, CaCO? (0; 0.2; 0.4; and 0.6% of the starch weight), and 20% (w/v) glycerol. The resulting films were evaluated based on Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR), moisture content, thickness, tensile strength, Young?s modulus, and elongation at break. Application on carrots was carried out over storage periods of 2, 5, and 7 days, with weight loss assessed accordingly. Analysis using SPSS 30.0 showed that the addition of CaCO? filler (p<0.05) significantly affected the physical property of moisture content (ranging from 15.5% to 4.2%), and mechanical properties including thickness (0.034?0.017 mm), tensile strength (8.09?19.93 MPa), elongation (1.47%?1.96%), and Young?s modulus (5.50?10.23 MPa). Meanwhile, CaCO? filler (p>0.05) had no significant effect on the physical property of WVTR (4.49?4.33 g/mē/hour). The application of edible films with varying CaCO? concentrations resulted in a weight loss of 12.4?12.2% per day. However, statistically, the edible film was only able to effectively reduce weight loss for 2 days (p < 0.05).
