N2  - The phenomenon of wives working outside the home has increased in line
with growing awareness of gender equality. However, this condition often brings
challenges such as the double burden and social stigma attached to women who
are active in the public sphere. In Islamic teachings, while the obligation to
provide for the family lies with men, women are still given space to contribute
economically as long as it does not violate the principles of sharia. This
phenomenon is important to examine further, especially through a fair and genderjust
approach.
This study aims to explore the perspectives of the caregivers at Pondok
Pesantren Krapyak Yogyakarta on the phenomenon of working wives and to
analyze it using the Qira?ah Mubadalah approach. This research is a field study
with a normative approach and descriptive-analytical nature. Data collection
techniques include in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation.
The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman?s interactive model, which
involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings show that the caregivers at Pondok Pesantren Krapyak
generally support women working outside the home, provided that they have their
husband?s permission or mutual agreement, adhere to Islamic ethics, and continue
to fulfill their domestic roles. This perspective aligns with the principles of
Qira?ah Mubadalah, which emphasize reciprocity and justice in the husband-wife
relationship. From the Mubadalah perspective, working is not seen as a violation
of a woman?s nature but rather as a contribution to the family?s and society?s wellbeing.
Therefore, a woman?s decision to work should be understood as a result of
mutual consultation and shared responsibilities within the household, not as a
breach of religious norms.
