N2  - Sihr is one of the phenomena explicitly mentioned in the Quran and is part of the aqidah and social issues in society. Understanding the concept of sihr in the Quran requires a comprehensive tafsir approach. The author's academic anxiety departs from the various interpretations of verses related to magic, which often present different perspectives in both theological and practical aspects. These different interpretations raise the need to explore how local mufassirs understand and interpret the concept of witchcraft, especially in the context of pesantren and Javanese society.

This study aims to examine and compare the interpretation of sihr in two tafsir books, namely Tafsir al-Ibriz by KH. Bisri Musthofa and al-Tibyan fi Tafsir Ayat al-Ahkam min al-Quran by KH. Achmad Nashrullah Abdurrochim. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach and comparative analysis. Primary data comes from the two tafsir books, while secondary data is obtained from books, journals, and other relevant literature. The analysis is done by comparing aspects of interpretation, such as aspects of the tafsir method, aspects of the locality of tafsir, and the tendency of each thought. This study compares the interpretation of sihr in the Quran between Kitab Tafsir al-Ibriz and Kitab al-Tibyan fi Tafsir Ayat al-Ahkam min al-Quran to reveal the differences and unique perspectives of each book in understanding the concept of witchcraft in shar'i terms.

The results show that Tafsir al-Ibriz uses a more Sufistic and contextual approach in understanding magic, emphasizing the moral aspects and its influence on the spiritual life of the people. Meanwhile, al-Tibyan fi Tafsir Ayat al-Ahkam min al-Quran features a more fiqhi and normative approach, with an emphasis on the laws relating to the practice of magic and its impact in Islamic society. Both emphasize that magic is a despicable act that contradicts the teachings of monotheism, but have different emphases and scope of discussion according to the background and purpose of writing each tafsir.
