"Former sex workers in Dukuh Petamanan, Banyuputih Village, face significant\r\nchallenges after the transformation of the local prostitution area into an Islamic\r\nCenter. Although the localization was widely recognized as a center of commercial\r\nsex work and a source of social stigma, some former sex workers did not perceive\r\ntheir lives there as problematic. In fact, they felt comfortable with the situation,\r\ndespite having limited access to social services. This study focuses on the\r\nreintegration process of former sex workers after the transformation of the locality.\r\nThe research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach, with snowball\r\nsampling techniques to access hard-to-reach populations, as well as through\r\nobservation and documentation in Dukuh Petamanan. The results reveal that the\r\nreintegration process post-transformation involves four main aspects: social,\r\neconomic, psychological, and spiritual. Effective solutions were found through\r\ncommunity-based empowerment initiatives that promote social inclusion, such as\r\ninvolvement in social activities, emotional support, and sustainable empowerment.\r\nPrograms that were too brief, overly formal, and did not address individual needs\r\nwere shown to be ineffective. This transformation forces former sex workers to\r\nreintegrate and adapt to new social norms. More inclusive and sustainable\r\ninitiatives have proven to foster a more stable social life, even though initially, they\r\ndid not view the locality as a major issue for them. This study demonstrates that the\r\nsocial reintegration of former sex workers requires a holistic approach that takes\r\ninto account individual perspectives on the locality and focuses on more humane,\r\ncontext-based social needs."^^ .
