"The Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama\r\nIndonesia/MUI) issued Fatwa No. 83 of 2023 on the Legal Status of\r\nSupport for the Palestinian Struggle, which calls for the boycott of\r\nproducts affiliated with Israel as a form of solidarity with the\r\noppressed Palestinian people. This fatwa was issued in response to\r\nIsrael‟s ongoing aggression that has triggered humanitarian crises\r\nand violated principles of justice and human rights. This study aims to\r\nexamine the legal considerations underlying the fatwa and analyze to\r\nwhat extent its substance aligns with the objectives of Islamic law\r\n(maqāṣid al-sharī„ah) from the perspective of Jasser Auda.\r\nThis research is a library study using a normative Islamic legal\r\napproach and a philosophical framework. The method used is\r\ndescriptive-analytical, with primary data derived from Fatwa No. 83\r\nof 2023 and secondary sources from supporting literature. The\r\ntheoretical framework is based on Jasser Auda‟s concept of maqāṣid\r\nal-sharī„ah, which views Islamic legal objectives through a holistic\r\nand dynamic system. This approach is used to assess the relevance of\r\nthe fatwa‟s boycott provision in relation to principles of justice, public\r\nwelfare, and ethical consumer behavior.\r\nThe findings show that Fatwa No. 83 of 2023 is consistent with\r\nthe principles of maqāṣid al-sharī„ah, particularly in preserving\r\nreligion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl), and the\r\ndignity of the Muslim community. The fatwa prohibits all forms of\r\nsupport, both direct and indirect for Israel, including economic\r\ntransactions, while encouraging alternative forms of support that\r\ncomply with Islamic principles. From Jasser Auda‟s perspective, the\r\nfatwa reflects a dynamic, responsive, and contextual approach to\r\nIslamic law, fulfilling public interests across the levels of ḍarūriyyāt\r\n(essentials), ḥājiyyāt (complementary needs), and taḥsīniyyāt\r\n(enhancements).
