"The tradition of prohibiting marriage in the month of Suro is still strongly\r\nbelieved by some Javanese communities, including in the village of Kepek,\r\nWonosari District, Gunungkidul Regency. This belief considers the month of Suro\r\nto be an unlucky time for holding weddings. However, there are couples who still\r\nchoose to marry during this month. This study aims to analyze the reasons behind\r\nthese couples' decisions and the social impacts they face after marriage.\r\nThis type of research is field research that uses two theories, namely the\r\ntheory of hidden transcript and the theory of maslahah. The Hidden Transcript\r\ntheory was proposed by James C. Scott, while the maslahah theory was proposed\r\nby Imam al-Ghazali. The research method used is qualitative with a legal sociology\r\napproach. Data was collected through observations in Kalurahan Kepek\r\nKapanewon Wonosari, Gunungkidul Regency, interviews with couples married in\r\nthe month of Suro, and documentation. The analysis used a deductive approach,\r\nstarting by presenting universal theories or facts, and then concluding to explain the\r\ncases in the field.\r\nThe results of this study conclude that there are two reasons why couples\r\nmarry in the month of Suro, namely due to parental obedience and educational\r\nbackground. Couples who marry in the month of Suro are treated well by their\r\nsurroundings, without encountering ridicule, rejection, or other negative treatments.\r\nThis indicates that society is becoming more open and beginning to accept\r\nmarriages in the month of Suro as a legitimate choice and no longer strictly\r\nassociated with restrictive traditional beliefs. Using the perspective of Hidden\r\nTranscript by James C. Scott, the actions of couples who continue to marry in a\r\nmonth considered taboo can be understood as a form of symbolic resistance that is\r\nnot frontal. They do not openly oppose, but express their dissent through real\r\nactions that reflect rationality, individual autonomy, and new interpretations of\r\nreligious teachings. This phenomenon emphasizes that social change often occurs\r\nsubtly through hidden practices, yet remains effective in dismantling the dominance\r\nof old discourses that are no longer relevant to current societal conditions."^^ .
