abstract: In the modern era, the tendency is for Islamic studies to undergo a transformation of knowledge. This is due to the dominant narrative that emerges in globalization and modernization. These two currents emphasize aspects of secularity in the role of religion, which considers that religion does not play an important role in the narrative of scientific development. This condition creates a distinction about the dullness in religious practice. However, the religious institution at Al-Jenderami Foundation differs from the existing trend, as it prioritizes religious knowledge in its role in shaping community welfare efforts. Therefore, the research aims to explore the manager's motives in establishing the religious institution, as well as narrating how the transformation of the role of religious institutions in the social service system there. This research is a qualitative field research through a narrative/historical approach. To find sources in data collection, researchers used triangulation techniques: observation, interviews and documentation. The research location is at Al-Jenderami Foundation Kampung Jenderam Hilir, Selangor Malaysia.
This study shows that Al-Jenderami Foundation as a religious institution gave birth to a motive in preserving Culture and Tradition so that Jenderam Hilir village became an alternative system as a Malay Islamic village. Rooted in the da'wah movement, they were able to determine their success at the main point of reorienting the da'wah movement from monologue to dialogue and from exclusive to inclusive. They can collaborate and synergize by forming institutions in providing humanitarian services. Al-Jenderami Foundation is not only a symbolic representation and center of tawhid or religiosity, but the role of the religious movement here has successfully emerged to adapt to contemporary challenges. Realizing social services that are not only spiritually fulfilling immaterial welfare but also in the material aspect in real form.
