This study aims to describe how self-regulation plays a role in helping IMAMI (Ikatan Mahasiswa Minang) students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta face and overcome culture shock during their adaptation to both academic and social settings that are new and different. This research employs a qualitative approach. The subjects were determined purposively, consisting of 2 new students and 2 senior students from IMAMI members. Data were collected through non-participant observation in IMAMI activities, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that new students generally experience culture shock during the initial phase of adaptation, characterized by confusion, social awkwardness, and identity dilemmas. IMAMI functions as a safe space as well as a form of informal counseling, facilitating the motivational transition from amotivation toward intrinsic regulation.} }
