description: People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) often experience decreased self-esteem due to social stigma, environmental rejection, and traumatic experiences they have experienced. Low self-esteem can hinder the process of recovery and social reintegration. Therefore, an appropriate approach is needed to help ODGJ rebuild their self-confidence and self-worth, one of which is through individual counseling. This study aims to determine, describe, and analyze the stages of individual counseling in improving self-esteem in ODGJ at the Bina Laras Social Rehabilitation Center in Yogyakarta.  This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques are carried out through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with subjects and rehabilitation officers, and supporting documentation.  The results of the study indicate that individual counseling is carried out through three main stages: (1) Initial stage, building an empathetic relationship and trust between the counselor and the client; (2) Core stage, identifying psychosocial problems and providing appropriate coping strategies; (3) Final stage, analyzing and evaluating the counseling process to monitor the development of the client's self-esteem continuously. Furthermore, this study also shows 3 aspects, namely the aspect of feelings of worth, the aspect of feelings of ability and the aspect of feelings of acceptance
