One of the recurring themes in film is family conflict, which often mirrors real-life social realities. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of family relationships in the film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap using the Relational Dialectics Theory developed by Leslie Baxter and Barbara Montgomery. The film was chosen for its portrayal of internal conflict within a Batak family, rich in cultural values and traditional norms. This research employs a qualitative content analysis method, focusing on scenes that highlight communication tensions between family members. Data collection techniques include non-participant observation, documentation, and literature review using purposive sampling. The findings reveal three dominant dialectical tensions: connection vs autonomy, stability vs change, and openness vs protection. These tensions are illustrated through generational conflicts, value differences, and the communication strategies used in resolving family issues. The study concludes that family conflict is not necessarily a sign of dysfunction, but rather a natural aspect of relational dynamics that, when addressed through open communication, can strengthen emotional bonds. This research contributes to the field of family communication and offers reflective insight into managing interpersonal conflicts more constructively. %Z Lukman Nusa, M.I.Kom.
