        abstract = {This study aims to find out the roles of preservation literature material at national library and
regional archive of Yogyakarta. This study can be categorized as a qualitative descriptive
research that is a research method with collecting the data through observation, interview,
and documentation. The process of data analysis used the Miles and huberman?s theories,
namely by reducing the data, focusing on research theme, presenting the data , explaining the
data base on observation, interview and concluding the analysis result after finished the data
analysis stages. Whereas to test the validity, the researcher use four ways, namely: credibility,
transferability, dependability, and conformability. This research of this study indicate that
there are two activities of preservation in the material library and regional archive of
Yogyakarta province. The first is preventive activities, includes the maintenance of literature
material which consist of cleaning the bookshelf with vacuum cleaner, tidying the literature
material and providing meet repentant material or camphor. Besides curative action which
includes activities such as fumigation of literature material, wrapping the books, creating a
protective box and transliteration.}
