Karwadi, S.Ag., M.Ag. %T MANAJEMEN KEPEMIMPINAN KARISMATIK DALAM MEMBENTUK KESALEHAN SOSIAL SANTRI DI PONDOK PESANTREN SALAFIYAH MANHAJUL ULUM CIAMIS %X One of the problems that often arises in Islamic boarding schools is the social gap between students and local residents, where the community sometimes views students as an exclusive group that is separate from local dynamics. This is exacerbated by negative stereotypes held by some members of the community who consider boarding school life to be closed and less adaptable to contemporary values, while on the other hand, some students may consider the surrounding community to be less religious. This study uses field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. This study was conducted to determine how charismatic leadership shapes the social piety of students at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis. There are three questions examined in this study. (1) What is the profile of charismatic leadership at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis? (2) How is charismatic leadership implemented at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis? (3) What is the impact of charismatic leadership on shaping the social piety of students at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis? In this study, two categories of data sources were used: primary and secondary data sources. Primary sources consisted of the boarding school leadership, management staff, and several students at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis. Secondary sources referred to articles, journals, books, dissertations, theses, and other relevant sources. In this study, data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with a total of 7 people, including one boarding school leader, two members of the management team, and four students. The charismatic leadership profile at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis is conceptualized into three dimensions. First, the kiai as a role model. As an authority figure at the boarding school, the kiai has a high-quality educational background, enabling him to display charismatic character and serve as a role model for his followers. Second, the internalization of social values in teaching. The kiai, as a leader, not only conveys practical knowledge in academic gatherings but also provides direct examples through various spiritual routines that inspire followers to internalize what they have learned in real life. Third, social relations. The relationship between the kiai and the santri is humanistic, marked by emotional closeness. Additionally, the good relationship between the kiai and the surrounding community also influences the community's perception of the santri, who are seen as part of the community participating in development processes, initiatives, and various community events. The implementation of charismatic leadership at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis is carried out by following the POAC management functions (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling). In the planning phase, the clerics at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis formulate the vision, mission, objectives, and several new programs to expand the school's academic resources while increasing its appeal to the community. In the organizing phase, the clerics assign certain elements of the students, such as teachers and senior students, to take an active role in implementing the newly formulated programs. In the implementation phase (actuating), the kiai also actively participated in teaching both inside and outside the classroom. As the leader, the kiai served as the central figure in the programs that had been scheduled. In the monitoring phase (controlling), the kiai reviewed all ongoing programs by holding meetings and evaluations to analyze which targets had been achieved and which areas needed improvement. The impact of charismatic leadership on the piety of students at the Salafiyah Manhajul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis can be mapped into three areas. First, a significant increase in the spiritual and social awareness of students. Second, the leadership of the kiai is able to encourage the direct involvement of students in community activities.
