Diversity, which should be a national asset, often triggers conflict due to weak understanding and tolerance between groups. Multicultural education is presented as a strategic approach to instill values of equality and inclusivity from an early age, but its implementation at the school level, particularly in rural areas, is still not optimal. There is a real gap between the theoretical discourse of multicultural education and practice in the field, which is caused, among other things, by the lack of teacher training, non-contextual teaching materials, and a curriculum that does not fully accommodate the principles of multiculturalism. This academic problem is becoming increasingly evident in the regions, including Sragen Regency. This study aims to examine the implementation of multicultural education in two junior high schools with different religious backgrounds, namely SMP Islam Birrul Walidain and SMP Saverius in Sragen Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to deeply examine the implementation of multicultural values in two junior high schools representing different social and religious backgrounds. Data collection was conducted thru in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The research subjects consisted of students, teachers, parents, and school policymakers as key informants. Data analysis follows the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The validity of the data was tested thru source and method triangulation. The research findings indicate: First, the multicultural education designs in both schools were developed adaptively according to the institutional and cultural contexts of each. SMP Islam Birrul Walidain integrates the Islamic values of "mercy for all mankind," while SMP Saverius instills the spirit of love (agape) in its curriculum, so that diversity is not only taught cognitively but also brought to life thru active, reflective, and project-based learning. Second, the implementation of multicultural education is carried out inclusively, involving teachers, students, parents, and school committees, with teachers acting as facilitators of cross-cultural dialog. Extracurricular activities such as art performances, cross-class discussions, and collaborative student projects serve as a means of strengthening tolerance and cooperation. Third, these multicultural education practices significantly contribute to improving students' cross-cultural tolerance attitudes and social integration, as reflected in increased understanding of diversity, the development of cross-cultural social skills, reduced stereotyping, and the growth of inclusive attitudes, empathy, positive social identity, and constructive interaction. The findings of this research conceptually confirm the importance of multicultural education rooted in local and spiritual values. The integration of the values of "rahmatan lil 'alamin" (mercy for all beings) and love (agape) shows that multicultural education is not limited to cognitive mastery, but also touches the affective and social domains, making it effective in forming positive social identity, empathy, and social cohesion. Conceptually, these findings open new directions for the development of inclusive, participatory, and relevant multicultural education theory and practice in Indonesia's diverse society. %Z Prof. Dr. Sukiman, S.Ag., M.Pd. dan Dr. Suhadi, S.Ag,, M.A.
