"Studies on the use of the Bible as a source of interpretation will always be a\r\nsubject of ongoing research by scholars. Ibrahim bin ‘Umar al - Biqa’i is one of the\r\nmedieval exegetes who is considered quite controversial in writing his exegetical work,\r\nNaz}m al-Durar fi Tanasub al-Ayah wa al-Suwar. Many scholars of al-Biqa’i focus\r\nsolely on munasabah, so the interaction with the Bible has received less attention. This\r\nis quite challenging because al-Biqa’i does not explicitly state his reasons for using the\r\nBible as one of his sources of interpretation. Inconsistencies were found in al-Biqa’i’s\r\nuse of biblical quotations. Intertextuality, as one of the post-structuralist disciplines and\r\na tool for examining interactions between literary works, is suitable as an analytical\r\ntool for this study.\r\nThis study is based on two main issues: first, how the Bible interacts as a source\r\nof interpretation in theological verses, legal verses, and narrative verses in Naz}m al-\r\nDurar fi Tanasub al-Ayah wa al-Suwar. Second, how does al-Biqa’i position the\r\nQur’an and the Bible in the interpretation of Naz}m al-Durar fi Tanasub al-Ayah wa al-\r\nSuwar? The material objects in this study are the theological verse Q.S al-Ma’idah [5]\r\n: 46, the legal verse Q.S. al-Ma’idah [5]: 45, and the narrative verse Q.S. Hud [11]: 77-\r\n83. The formal object in this study is intertextuality.\r\nThe conclusion of this thesis is that in interpreting al-Biqai's theological verses,\r\nthe Bible is used to reinforce Islamic beliefs and sharia law. In al-Biqa'i's legal verses,\r\nhe refers to the original source, the Torah, but still adapts it to the legal rules found in\r\nthe Qur'an. Meanwhile, in interpreting narrative verses, al-Biqa’i uses the Bible as an\r\nexplanation or to elaborate on something that is vague.\r\nAl-Biqa’i uses the Bible cautiously and cannot be separated from mainstream\r\ntheology. There are three functions of the Bible evident in al-Biqa’i: reinforcing\r\ntheology, reinforcing sharia, and elaborating on ambiguous matters.
