Excessive claims unsupported by scientific evidence often mislead consumers and have the potential to cause both material and immaterial losses. This study examines legal protection against overclaiming in skincare product advertisements in Yogyakarta. The research background is based on the need for legal certainty for consumers regarding correct, clear, and honest information in skincare product advertisements. This study aims to analyze the forms of legal protection provided to consumers against overclaiming in skincare product advertisements and the sanctions imposed on business actors if consumers suffer losses due to excessive claims in skincare product advertisements. The research method used is field research. The research approach is a juridical-empirical approach, utilizing applicable laws and regulations. Empirically, this approach was conducted through observations and interviews at the Yogyakarta Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), the Yogyakarta Consumer Institute, and with several consumers who have been victims of overclaiming in skincare advertisements. The results indicate that, first, legal protection for consumers is regulated in Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. One concrete form of protection is a complaint reporting mechanism to the Yogyakarta Consumer Institute, supported by BPOM regulations that require every skincare product to have a distribution permit and to be honest in providing information. Second, the importance of imposing legal sanctions on businesses that violate their responsibilities. If losses occur, businesses can be subject to administrative sanctions, up to and including revocation of their distribution permit. date: 2025-07-13 date_type: published pages: 139 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS SYARIAH DAN HUKUM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Audina El Rahma, NIM.: 21103040166 (2025) TINJAUAN YURIDIS PERLINDUNGAN KONSUMEN TERHADAP IKLAN OVERCLAIM SKINCARE DI YOGYAKARTA.
