"This research is motivated by concerns over the increasingly\r\nuncontrollable development of socio-political conditions, in which\r\nvarious forms of injustice persist within society, such as widening\r\neconomic inequality, environmental degradation, the marginalization of\r\nindigenous communities, and the erosion of democratic values. These\r\nconditions indicate that social change has become an urgent necessity\r\nthat cannot be ignored. In this context, intellectuals hold particular\r\nsignificance in promoting social transformation. However, they are also\r\nvulnerable to being co-opted as instruments of power legitimization,\r\noften confronted with dilemmas between maintaining the status quo or\r\nadvancing social transformation, between serving elite interests or the\r\ninterests of the people. This issue has become a central concern among\r\nsocial theorists regarding the independence and moral responsibility of\r\nintellectuals, with Mansour Fakih being one of the thinkers who devoted\r\nconsiderable attention to this matter.\r\nThrough the critical perspective developed by Mansour Fakih,\r\nintellectuals are not only positioned as producers of knowledge but also\r\nas subjects actively engaged in dismantling structures of injustice and\r\nfostering social transformation. Therefore, this study broadly formulates\r\ntwo main research questions: first, how is the intellectual defined in\r\nMansour Fakih’s thought? second, what is the role of intellectuals in the\r\nprocess of social transformation according to Mansour Fakih?\r\nThe purpose of this study is to describe the concept of\r\nintellectuals from Mansour Fakih’s perspective and their role in\r\nadvancing the process of social transformation. This research adopts a\r\nqualitative approach based on library research, examining Fakih’s major\r\nworks as primary sources and various relevant literature as secondary\r\nreferences. The method employed is descriptive-analytical to examine\r\nMansour Fakih’s thought.\r\nThe findings of this study conclude that: first, the concept of\r\nintellectuals in Mansour Fakih’s thought represents a transformativeparticipatory\r\nmodel, namely intellectuals who are organically rooted in\r\nthe social dynamics of society by integrating critical analytical capacity\r\nwith direct involvement in the process of social transformation. Second,\r\nFakih’s perspective on the role of intellectuals in social transformation\r\nportrays them as subjects with moral, political, and cultural\r\nresponsibilities to actively engage in social struggles that side with the\r\noppressed, grounded in the social realities of community life, and to\r\nadvance social transformation through three strategic roles: a) building\r\nresistance movements and fostering the people’s critical consciousness;\r\nb) conducting participatory research involving direct engagement in the\r\ndynamics of social movements; and c) policy advocacy and the\r\ndevelopment of solidarity networks."^^ .
