"The Qur’an functions not only as a guide for life imbued with theological\r\nteachings, but also exhibits remarkable artistic depth and rhetorical richness.\r\nAmong the linguistic styles found in the Qur’an are ijāz and iṭnāb concise\r\nexpressions that effectively convey meaning, and deliberate elaboration that adds\r\nstructure and depth. These rhetorical devices are not mere ornamentation; they\r\nplay a crucial role in reinforcing meaning and enhancing the persuasive power of\r\nthe text. Surah Yusuf, which narrates the life of a prophet in a coherent and\r\nchronological manner, employs ijāz and iṭnāb to strengthen its narrative structure\r\nand deepen its conveyed messages.\r\nThis study is a library research employing a qualitative approach and\r\ndescriptive-analytical method. It focuses on the analysis of ijāz and iṭnāb in Surah\r\nYusuf through the lens of classical balaghah (Arabic rhetoric), integrated with a\r\ntafsir-based approach to explore the rhetorical functions and meanings embedded\r\nin the verses. The primary source for this study is Ṣafwah al-Tafāsīr by Ali ash-\r\nShabuni, which is examined systematically to uncover the rhetorical tendencies\r\nand distinctive features of his interpretive style.\r\nThe analysis reveals one verses that contain ijāz qaṣr and seven verses that\r\ncontain ijāz ḥadhf. As for iṭnāb, the study identifies one case of iḍāḥ ba‘da ibhām,\r\nthree of tikrār, one ighāl, three tazyīl, one ‘itirāḍ, and one khāṣṣ ba‘da ‘āmm.\r\nAlthough Ali ash-Shabuni does not explicitly mention these rhetorical terms, his\r\nexplanations reflect a practical and functional interpretive approach, making his\r\ntafsir highly relevant for contemporary readers seeking clarity and accessibility in\r\nunderstanding the Qur’an.\r\nThis study demonstrates that the application of balaghah in Qur’anic\r\ninterpretation can broaden the horizon of understanding divine messages,\r\nespecially when combined with an interpretive approach that is communicative\r\nand contextual. The style of interpretation employed by Ali ash-Shabuni offers a\r\nmeaningful bridge between the classical rhetorical richness of the Qur’an and the\r\nneeds of modern readers."^^ .
