At the beginning of its establishment, tajdid was generally understood as a movement to purify practices that were considered to have deviated from Islamic teachings. In 2016, Muhammadiyah published an official interpretation titled Tafsir al-Tanwir. This interpretation is characterized by responsiveness, dynamism, and ethos. This study examines the claim that Tafsir al-Tanwir is an interpretation that is responsive to the times. The testing was conducted from two perspectives: internal and external. Internally, the measurement standard was the concept of tajdid, which was one of Ahmad Dahlan's guiding principles in founding Muhammadiyah. Externally, the contemporary tafsir paradigm was used to assess whether Tafsir al-Tanwir meets the criteria and validity of the contemporary tafsir paradigm's perspective. Tajdid has undergone a development in meaning, namely purification and dynamization. The meaning of purification is inherent when it intersects with the fields of faith and worship. Meanwhile, the meaning of dynamization is used when it intersects with the fields of social and muamalah. This message is evident in several interpretations of Tafsir al-Tanwir. When interpreting verses related to worshiping Allah, the exegete addresses religious practices deemed far from the teachings and laden with polytheism. When encountering verses containing social or transactional messages, they are interpreted dynamically. Tafsir al-Tanwir falls under the category of contemporary tafsir because it meets the criteria and validity of truth. This tafsir positions the Qur'an as a guide in life, both in the relationship between humans and God, as well as in social relationships among humans. The sources used are not limited to religious fields but also refer to scientific knowledge when necessary. The content of the interpretation is relevant to the conditions of Indonesian society and does not lean too heavily toward any particular school of thought or party. According to the three theories of truth, this interpretation demonstrates evidence that the al-Tanwir Interpretation meets the standards of the coherence, correspondence, and pragmatism theories.} }
