The aim of this research was to determine the water quality of Gajah Wong river based on the diversity of gastropods. The study was conducted in September- Oktober 2012 at 3 stations of the upstream part of of Gajah Wong watershed. Station 1 is located at Sardonoharjo, station 2 at Harjobinangun, and station 3 at Hargobinangun. The method used in this research was the technique of kicking and jabbing with 3 replications. The water quality of Gajah Wong river was calculated by taking account gastropod diversity using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. The difference of parameters tested was analyzed using one way ANOVA, and the relationship between environmental parameters with the number of individuals gastropod was tested using correlation-regression analysis. The results found 12 species of gastropods with the lowest number of total species at station 2 (261 individuals), while the highest number of total species at station 1 (324 individuals). The ANOVA test showed significant differences of the number of gastropods in the researched stations. According to the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Gajah Wong river was slightly contaminated with the lowest diversity index at station 1 of 2,43 and the highest index value at station 3 with a value of 2,90. The correlation coefficient test in the parameters tested showed a positive correlation but no significant relation between environmental factors and the number of gastropods.
