Secondly, it seeks to identify the factors that hinder the boarding school from improving religious literacy for the students of Pondok Pesantren Nurul Ummah. This research uses a qualitative descriptive type of study. The subject of this research is the managers of Islamic boarding schools, either male or female teachers. Meanwhile, the object of this research is the Role of Islamic Boarding Schools in Enhancing the Religious Literacy of Students at Nurul Ummah Islamic Boarding School. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The conclusion drawn is that the role of Madrasah Diniyah in enhancing religious literacy for students can be realized through various activities. One form of activity is the existence of Madrasah Diniyah, where the management of the pesantren requires all students to participate in the program. Students are encouraged to read the yellow books, and after graduating from the diniyah madrasa, they can nurture their religious literacy. Interestingly, there are various other activities that encourage students to be creative according to their abilities and desires, such as speeches, devotional prayers, recitation, and spiritual struggles. The activity makes the students happier to participate in it because it is fun and not as rigid as the traditional religious school. Teaching and learning activities take place from Saturday to Thursday, starting after the Fajr prayer (05:00) until 21:30 at the diniyah school. For the teacher to use methods that can make the students more enthusiastic and happy in their learning. Furthermore, the availability of facilities at the Islamic boarding school is adequate and meets the teaching and learning standards of the diniyah madrasa. There are several inhibiting factors faced by the Nurul Ummah Islamic boarding school, such as the clash of teaching hours with the activities of the teachers outside the boarding school, like their weekly routine events.
